The Pan Am Historical Foundation's Digital Library platform — "Clipper Hall" — is inspired by long-time Pan Am Historian Althea (Gerry) Lister. It's a digital pathway where visitors can explore presentations as if they were walking through separate galleries in an exhibition — taking their time, revisiting the displays, and absorbing Pan Am's exciting and important stories.
"Clipper Hall" is an online portal highlighting events and accomplishments, both large and small, in Pan Am’s important and exciting history. TYou’ll find a growing selection of exhibits and films that bring the past alive in a dynamic, immersive experience.

Great Expectations - New Perspectives on Pan Am's Storied Past

"Great Expectations," our first exhibit launched in August 2023, includes a deep dive into the history of the Pan Am Building in New York City, as well as an introduction to Pan Am's B-314 Super Clipper, and a look at some of Pan Am's accomplishments in 1932 during its fifth year of operations. Ongoing features include Advertising Pan Am, as well as Archival Insights and Pan Am Theater that showcase additions to our collection, including newly digitized films, photos, and artifacts.
With the launch of "Clipper Hall," the Pan Am Historical Foundation continues its mission to keep Pan Am's history both relevant and accessible to current and future generations. Ongoing projects include historic film preservation and the new "Clipper Hall" interactive exhibits and films about the airline.

For 32 years, the Pan Am Historical Foundation has preserved and promoted the unique heritage of Pan American World Airways, Inc. and its incomparable contributions to the technology, convenience, safety and excitement of commercial aviation. As a 501(c)(3) educational foundation, it was established in 1992 by a concerned group of former Pan Am employees.
After Pan Am ceased operations in 1991, the foundation's newly formed board of directors successfully raised the needed funds to acquire historical assets through the bankruptcy proceedings, subsequently placing them with appropriate organizations for professional stewardship. These repositories of the Pan Am legacy now include searchable databases at University of Miami Special Collections, HistoryMiami, Hartman Center at Duke University, SFO Museum, and Smithsonian Institution. Recently digitized unique Pan Am items from Duke, HistoryMiami, and University of Miami are shared on the Digital Public Library of America's Aviation Portal.
