Juan Trippe and his wife Betty voyaged on the airship Hindenburg from Germany in 1936.
Photos of the Hindenburg were taken by Betty Trippe on their return voyage home in late 1936 during their trip around the world, starting with their epic flight to China on the M-130 Philippine Clipper.
The use of lighter-than-air transports was something of particular interest to Juan Trippe. Pan Am had actually created a company as a vehicle for investments in the technology, although the trail ended with the dramatic demise of the Hindenburg in May 1937, just a few months after the Trippes made their transatlantic voyage.
