The small group of young women of Japanese descent who were hired by Pan Am in the 1950’s were pioneers. Professor Yano (who teaches Anthropology at the University of Hawaii) has pulled together their personal stories, in the context of the airline’s mission to become America’s international air travel icon. It’s a fascinating story, and not a dry academic tome in the least.
