The Pan Am Historical Foundation’s 2005 Calendar has been mailed to members.
This year’s “Foundation” calendar features the exceptional pencil drawings of renowned artist Robert Taylor. The original drawings first appeared in the 1991 and 1992 Pan Am Clipper Cargo calendars and were the result of considerable research by the artist into the history of Pan Am’s cargo activity.
Robert Taylor is recognized by most to be the world's leading aviation artist. International demand for his original oils, pencil drawings, and limited edition prints is unprecedented. His work has been featured many times as the subject of television programs and newspaper and magazine articles. His 1987 one-man exhibition at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum in Washington, made possible by Pan American World Airways, was seen by 10 million visitors and has been quoted as being one of the most successful aviation art exhibitions ever staged at the Smithsonian.
In early 1990, Pan Am’s Vice President - Cargo, Thor O. Johnson, commissioned Robert Taylor to create a number of drawings of Pan Am’s aircraft to illustrate a series of Clipper Cargo calendars. The special art calendars of 1991 and 1992 were the result of that effort. The original calendars were presented in a technically different format and were slightly smaller. However, in creating the 2005 PAHF calendar we have attempted to capture the essential beauty of the original calendars and have tried to preserve for our members the superb visual effect of the original calendars. Additionally, for those with a passion for detail we incorrectly designated the model number on a very special aircraft.
PAHF extends a special thanks to Robert Taylor and Universal Promotions Limited for authorization to use the pencil drawings in this year’s calendar and to Thor Johnson for securing that authorization.
Additional copies of the calendar, which make excellent gifts, are available for $15.00 each, including domestic postage. For international shipping please add $5.00. Send payment in USD, or send credit card data (Visa, Mastercard, or American Express), including expiration date to:

This past summer the Pan Am Historical Foundation took a major step in its ongoing attempt to preserve the remaining Pan Am artifacts and memorabilia. Over the years numerous articles and documents have been received from individuals and were being stored by the Foundation in Greenwich, CT. Additionally, Kathleen Clair was considering donating her personal collection of over a thousand documents and photographs.
Recognizing the need to assess, preserve, index and catalogue these items and set up a system for future donations; the foundation hired Anne Young, on a part time basis this past summer. Ms Young recently received a Masters Degree in IS specializing in Archives/Records Administration. She has completed her work in arranging, describing and cataloging what PAHF has in storage, now 65 cubic feet of records, including the Kathleen Clair collection. She has also produced a finding aid of 75 pages.
Anne’s project will serve as the basis for and give direction to the Archives Committee continuing work in preserving the history and legacy of Pan Am, and we profoundly thank her for her efforts.
